If you have a loved one that is in early recovery, there are some things you should be aware of so you know how you can support them. It can be challenging. It is like being a newborn with adult expectations.
We have to relearn how to live our lives, we have to learn how to deal with emotions. It can come out like anger, frustration, confusion. Sometimes the best thing to do as a support person, is to give space. It can often still be just as chaotic as when they were using drugs. Only now, they don't have the drugs to help them cope with the chaos so it can be even more chaotic.
It's better to know what to expect, and maybe even adjust expectations.
